From Son
After the devastating trauma on October 12, 2005; when Mrs. Nada Zahabi, my dear mother, has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer - a size of 2cm confined to her left breast (lymphnodes are clear), I have never been so sensitive about women and breast cancer victims and decided to donate my leisure time fuelled by anger and determination to find a cure for breast cancer. The most shocking moment for me is when I have entered to the emergency room at the JGH to see my mother for the first time after her surgery and a session of chemotherapy, which wasn’t compatible with her body. She had lost all her Goldie Hawn hair and became simply bald while she sits helplessly on the bed looking straight through my eyes while my heart breaks silently and my throat dries up as it was a shocking moment. I never thought that one day my mother will be diagnosed with such a fatal disease as I always had this notion that such a disease or illness will never happen to us. It turns out I was utterly wrong and it can happen to anyone of us. Never underestimate life’s miracles and miseries it can bring forth. As a young man involved in fighting breast cancer every single day, I would like to address all the young men out there that not because you do not have breasts you must be indifferent. We all have a mother, sister, grandmother, girlfriend or a woman in our life that we love and care for. Therefore, I ask of you to give a hand and help us achieve the Nada Mission. Yes, be a mama’s boy! You won’t feel the hurt until it happens to you so let’s stop it before it happens to anyone else.
V for Victorious, Ayman Mazri
